Schirmer Tear Test & Phenol Red Thread Test
The Schirmer and Phenol Red Thread tests evaluate how quickly your eyes can produce the aqueous layer of your tears. The results are read by seeing how far down the paper or thread your tears have traveled. The Schirmer is read after 5 minutes while the Thread test is read after 15 seconds. The optometrist will determine which test would be best for you.
